Review: MakeupGeek Eyeshadows!

Hey Everyone!!!

I have quite the exciting review for you today! I was contacted by MakeupGeek to be a part of their Idea Gallery and to also receive 12 of their eyeshadows. I was so excited to be contacted from them, so I quickly jumped on the opportunity and picked my 12 shadows! The second they came in the mail I opened them up and swatched them and let me just say I was HAPPILY surprised! I will get on to the swatches and give my full opinion at the end.... I know you are all more excited to see these amazing shadows!

Each photo was taken in artificial lighting with no flash.

I did not swatch the shadows over a base to show their true opacity.

I will state Makeupgeek's description of each shadow, followed by my personal view of the each shadow.

From left to right: Mocha, Cocoa Bear, Purely Naked, & Vanilla Bean

Mocha:

MUG: Deep matte brown

Mocha is a beautiful “teddy bear” matte dark brown. This shadow is perfect for deepening the crease of a neutral smokey eye!

Cocoa Bear:

MUG: Matte reddish brown

Cocoa Bear is a warm toned reddish brown, it kind of yields an orange tone. This shadow would go great with Mocha.

Purely Naked:

MUG: Shimmery tan

I found Purely Naked to be a slightly peachy shimmery tan. This is a perfect highlight or all over the lid color.

Vanilla Bean:

MUG: Simple but smooth shadow that has a matte finish with just the slightest sheen.

This shadow is quite similar to Brule from MAC, which is my holy grail highlight shadow! I may just have to swap to Vanilla Bean, since it's a much cheaper alternative!

From left to right: Sensuous, Unexpected, Moondust, & Shimma Shimma
Sensuous:

MUG: Shimmery purple with flecks of silver.

I found sensuous to be a plum purple with silver and gold flecks throughout. On the swatch it didn’t have as strong of color payoff that I was hoping for as it took about 2-3 layers to get it the way it looks in the swatch, but it is still a gorgeous purple and great for hazel eyes!

Unexpected:

MUG: Matte pale pink brown.

I really like this shadow! Unexpected has great color payoff and it a dusty purple with a slight brown undertone. This shadow looks amazing with Sensuous.

Moondust:

MUG: Metallic silver taupe

I found Moondust to be a silver taupe shadow with a slight greenish undertone. This is one of the more true metallic shadows out of the bunch.

Shimma Shimma:

MUG: Metallic Campagne

Shimma Shimma is another pure metallic shade; it is a metallic version of Vanilla Bean. I really love this shadow as an inner corner highlight and to add an extra boost to under the brow.

From left to right: Envy, Corrupt, Peacock, & Razzleberry

Envy:

MUG: Deep metallic green.

I was slightly disappointed with the way that this swatch came out because I was expecting more of a metallic deep, rich green. I found this shadow to be more of a blackened hunter green with silver shimmer throughout and no metallic sheen. Envy is still a beautiful green that would go great with Moondust.

Corrupt:

MUG: Intense matte black with a very subtle sparkle.

Corrupt is perhaps one of the darkest matte blacks out there. I absolutely love how soft and deep this shadow is! Definitely a new holy grail black for me!

Peacock:

MUG: Matte deep teal blue.

Peacock was also another shadow that I had a different vision of judging by the shadow in the pan. The swatch came out to be more of a blue than a teal, although I can see the greenish undertone. Either way, this is still a beautiful shadow.

Razzleberry:

MUG: Raspberry pink with gold shimmer.

Razzleberry is a beautiful pinkish red with gold shimmer throughout.

These shadows truly surprised me with how soft and pigmented they are. There was only one that I wasn't as impressed with the pigmentation of (Sensuous) and it does take a little bit more work to get this shadow to true opacity. Envy was the only shadow that I was disappointed with in that with the online swatch, it looked like a much more vibrant green, but it seems to be a black based hunter green; still a gorgeous shadow though.

All of the shadows are extremely blendable and they are so easy to work with. I found the mattes to perform much better than some of the mattes from MAC as they are much softer and more pigmented.

I would highly recommend giving Makeupgeek shadows a try! They are a little more than half the price of a MAC shadow and apply beautifully! Makeupgeek shadows can be purchased in pan form for $5.99 and in compact form for $7.99.

Here is a look I did using the Makeupgeek shadows!

Swatches: Detrivore Cosmetics Halloween 2012 Collection

Hey Everyone!

Today I will be showing you swatches of the Detrivore Cosmetics Halloween Collectionfor 2012! I received mine in the mail a couple of days ago and I was dying to swatch them all for you! The shadows are absolutely beautiful and I cannot get over the names, they are awesome!

I will be showing the swatches and then have descriptions of each shadow from the Detrivore website and then my take on the shadow.

This collection is $27.00 and can be found here

Each picture was taken in artificial lighting with no flash.

Now on to the awesome shadows included in this collection!

From left to right: Toxicity, Samhain, Crocodilia, & Acid Test

Toxicity:

Site Description: A dark brown satin with blue and red shimmer.
My Description: A dark taupey brown with light blue shimmer; I couldn't really see the red shimmer in this one, but that could have been due to my lighting.

Samhain:

Site Description: A black satin with gold shimmer.
My Description: A charcoal black with gold shimmer.

Crocodilia:

Site Description: A dark satin teal with heavy shimmer.
My Description: A teal with gold, silver, and teal shimmer.

Acid Test:

Site Description: An off gold satin
My Description: This shadow seemed to be almost a chartreuse and gold combination. I thought it is an absolutely beautiful color.

From left to right: Filth, Memento Mori, Absent, Cavern, & Cadaverine
Filth:

Site Description: A satin taupe with a heavy purple shimmer.
My Description: I found this shade to be more of a purple than a taupe; but it definitely has the purple shimmer.

Memento Mori:

Site Description: A dark plum matte (this shadow can also be found in the Graveyard Collection).
My Description: I thought that this shade was a dark plum/maroon combination. I really love it and love the matte finish.
Absent:

Site Description: A reddish orange satin with gold shimmer.
My Description: A burnt orange with gold shimmer.
Cavern:

Site Description: A matte pink.
My Description: A matte pink that would be great as a blush as well, especially for the Fall!

Cadaverine:

Site Description: A light reddish beige matte (this shadow can also be found in the Graveyard Collection).
My Description: I found this shade to be a beautiful peachy beige matte. I would love this shadow for a highlight or all over the lid color!

Overall I think that this collection is absolutely stunning. Each of the colors are completely wearable and would work together beautifully. I can't wait to do some looks with these shadows!

I really hope you all found this post helpful and that you decide to pick up the collection! Detrivore Cosmetics is quickly becoming quite high on my list of favorite Indie companies! They always have amazing sales and frequently have 10 shadows for $20.00, which is such a steal!

Have you tried this collection yet? Which shadows are your favorites?
