Swatches: Detrivore Cosmetics Shadows - Pinks, Taupes, and Oranges!

Hey Everyone!!!
Today I have some more swatch photos of some of my Detrivore Cosmetics shadows! This post will mainly focus on the pinks, taupes, and oranges that I have! My main post was a full fledged review followed by detailed swatches, which you can see here. I am obviously not going to repeat the same review but I will have detailed explanations of the shadows in this post! Let's get on to the swatches!

  • All shadows are swatched over Two Faced Shadow Insurance.
  • All photographs were taken in artificial lighting with flash.
  • I will state the website description of each shadow as well as my own.
Left to Right: Cavern, Coma, & Weaponry
 Cavern:
  • DC: Cavern is a pink matte eye shadow.
  • ME: Cavern is a pink matte eye shadow that could easily be used as a blush!
Coma:
  • DC: Coma is a soft matte pink eye shadow.
  • ME: Coma is a cooler toned matte pink and is slightly lighter than Cavern. This shadow can also be used as a blush!
Weaponry:
  • DC: Weaponry is a purplish pink eye shadow.
  • ME: Weaponry is a deeper pink matte eye shadow; it does have a slight purplish hue to it. I think this shadow would also make a great blush if you are looking for something darker.

Left to Right: Cadaverine, Absent, & Filth
Cadaverine:
  • DC: Cadaverine is a light reddish beige matte.
  • ME: I see Cadaverine as a more pink/peach toned beige matte eye shadow. This shadow would make a great highlight/blending shadow.
Absent:
  • DC: Absent is a bright orangish red satin eye shadow with gold shimmer.
  • ME: Absent is a gorgeous red-orange satin with a ton of gold shimmer throughout.
Filth:
  • DC: Filth is a taupe eye shadow with heavy purple.
  • ME: Filth is a taupey-brown with a purple undertone. I would consider this shadow a satin finish but it doesn't contain any shimmer.
My favorites from this group are Cavern, Absent, and Filth!

Which ones out of this group do you like the best? Have you tried any of these shadows?

Sneak Peak: The Glamour Doll Eyes Halo Collection!!!

Hey Everyone!!!

I have a very exciting post for you today! I was contacted in 2012 by Vee to be involved with a new collection that Glamour Doll Eyes is coming out with and I obviously jumped on the opportunity! Vee asked if I would create some looks and a tutorial for a booklet that will be distributed along with the Halo Collection. As you all know by now Glamour Doll Eyes is one of my absolute favorite makeup brands and their shadows are some of the best that I have ever used.

The focus of the Halo Collection from Glamour Doll Eyes is to bring a spark to 10 different neutral shadows to make them much more unique. Each of the shadows have a sparkle, shimmer, and sheen added to them. The shadows are just gorgeous and definitely add a kick to those sometimes blah neutral shadows!

This is one of the looks I did that I wrote out a tutorial for using the shadows!

  Now on to the shadows!!!
  •  All photos are taken in artificial light with a flash.
  • All shadows are swatched over GDE Control Freak Primer.
  • I will be using the description of the shadows as stated by GDE.
Left to Right: Flawless, Disclose, Vulnerable, & Imitation
Flawless: A light beige/pink with subtle turquoise and gold shimmers.

Disclose: A blackened gold with red and orange shimmers.

Vulnerable: A light beige with rose and green shimmers.

Imitation: A medium beige with dark brown undertones and silver shimmers.

Left to Right: Mannequin, Flaunt & Audacious
Mannequin: A baby pink with metallic qualities and blue shimmers.

Flaunt: A medium taupe with pink and gold shimmers.

Audacious: A metallic copper/gold with black undertones and copper shimmers.

Left to Right: Undressed, Unveil, & Exposed
Undressed: A dark blackened brown with green shimmers.

Unveil: A dark matte brown with purple shimmer undertones. Also has maroon qualities.

Exposed: A medium matte grey with subtle multi colored shimmers.

I also wanted to show you a couple looks that I created using these shadows:

I honestly think that these gorgeous shadows are so unique and I love using them in looks! They really bring a different twist any neutral eye! I want to thank Vee for involving me in this project and I greatly appreciate it!!!

My favorites from this collection are Unveil, Vulnerable and Flaunt!

The Halo Collection is due out January 20th, 2013 and will cost $40.00.

Are any of you planning to purchase this collection? Which shadows are your favorites?

Review: Z Palette

Hey Everyone!

Today I am bringing you a review of the Z Palette. I needed to purchase a palette to stick my MakeupGeek shadows in so that I could free up my MAC palettes for some shadows that need de-potting. I ended up purchasing the black, large sized palette off of the MakeupGeek website.

This palette has a hard cardboard exterior with a see through cover and a magnetized top so that the palette stays closed. The inside of the palette contains a magnetized base where the shadows are placed. One of the bonuses of this palette is that due to this base, you don't have to stick magnets onto your shadows for them to stick on the palette like you do with the old MAC ones. I find this wicked easy and much more convenient to use! I was also able to flip the palette over and not have my shadows move at all!!!

I really like how you can see through the top of the palette so you don't have to spend all of your time labeling palettes because you cannot see the products in them. This would be great for makeup artists on shoots/ with clients as it will make it easier to get your products together. The magnet that keeps the palette shut is great and is very strong so it keeps the palette closed even if flipped over.

As stated before, the exterior of the palette is made of a very sturdy cardboard. This could be a downside to the product as the cardboard may not hold up as well during travel, unlike the old MAC palettes, which are a hard plastic palette. The Z Palette is also slightly bigger than the old MAC palettes; you can fit 27 MAC/MUG eye shadows in the Z Palette, while in the old MAC palette you can fit 21 without the pan inserts. The dimensions for the Z Palette are 8''L x 4.75''W x .44''D.

There are a variety of different sizes and colors of Z Palettes that are available which is great and really makes them unique from other palettes.

I really like the Z Palette and I definitely want to purchase more once I need more palettes to put shadows in. The black Z Palette that I purchased from MakeupGeek was $18.99 and this palette can also be purchased from the Z Palette for $20.00. This palette is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a sturdy palette to put your pans of shadows in and I would highly recommend it!

Have any of you tried the Z Palette? How do you like it?

I also love that you can make your looks a bit more dramatic with the darker, more smokey colors but can still pull of that "everyday" look! I really hope that you all enjoy this look!

Swatches: Detrivore Cosmetics Shadows - Browns/Neutrals

Hey Everyone!!!!

I'm back with my first post for 2013! I hope that you all had a fun, safe, and happy new year and that you are excited for 2013! I seriously have been slacking on the swatches for my blog so I wanted to get a good start on them today. I am starting off with all of the Detrivore Cosmetics shadows that I have been collecting over the past year. I am seriously in LOVE with these shadows and they have some of the best matte shadows that I have ever used!

In case you aren't familiar with the brand, Detrivore Cosmetics is an indie makeup company that is owned and run by Distorria Mordred. Detrivore's main focus is loose cosmetics, such as shadows, powders, blushes, etc... I personally have only tried their shadows so that will be the focus of my posts.

Detrivore sells their shadows in a 5 gram jar which costs $4.00 - $5.00 or a sample baggie that costs $1.00. Detrivore Cosmetics always has great promotional sales and the one that I normally purchase from is when they offer 10 shadows for $20.00! This is a fantastic deal as you are basically getting 5 shadows for free!

The majority of the shadows that I own from this company are the matte formula because I absolutely love how smooth and easy to use this formula is! I find that the products don't leave those skip marks that some matte shadows can tend to do during blending and that they blend beautifully!

The naming system for this company is another reason why I really enjoy them! They are so unique as Distorria gets most of her inspiration from literature, films, music, marine biology, and entomology. I love how dark some of the names are and they always remind me of my favorite time of year, Halloween!

Now on to the swatches!!!

  • All shadows are swatched over Two Faced Shadow Insurance.
  • All pictures were taken in artificial lighting with flash.
  • I will state the website description of each shadow as well as my own description.
Left to Right: Wretched, Memento Mori, Nymph, & Torment
Wretched:
  • DC: Wretched is a dark brown matte.
  • ME: Wretched is a very dark chocolate brown matte shadow that would be perfect for defining/deepening the outer V.
Memento Mori:
  • DC: Memento Mori is a dark plum matte.
  • ME: Memento Mori is a dark, matte plum with a brownish base. I really like this type of purple shadow and it's a great neutral shade to have in a collection. Definitely one of my favorites.
Nymph:
  • DC: Nymph is a plum matte eye shadow.
  • ME: I would call Nymph more of a toned down red-brown matte shade with a copper undertone.
Torment:
  • DC: Torment is a medium brown matte eye shadow.
  • ME: Torment is a beautiful cool toned matte brown that would be a perfect crease color for a brown/neutral smokey eye!
Left to Right: Toxicity, Silt, & Petrified
Toxicity:
  • DC: Toxicity is a dark brown satin shadow with blue and pink shimmer. Very glittery.
  • ME: Toxicity is another one of my absolute favorite shadows as it is a dark brown with gorgeous light blue shimmers throughout. I honestly didn't really see the pink shimmers in this shadow.
Silt:
  • DC: Silt is a medium brown matte eye shadow.
  • ME: Silt is a medium matte brown with a more orange tone.
Petrified:
  • DC: Petrified is a light brown matte eye shadow.
  • ME: Petrified is a gorgeous light matte brown that reminds me of Kid from MAC but slightly darker. This shadow is perfect as a darker transition color to help blend out the crease.
Left to Right: Autopsy, Ossuary, & Topiary
Autopsy:
  • DC: Autopsy is a warm beige eye shadow.
  • ME: Autopsy is a beautiful warm beige matte shadow that is perfect for blending the crease out. This shadow is also great for those who have a darker skin tone or are tan as an all over lid color.
Ossuary:
  • DC: Ossuary is a light beige eye shadow.
  • ME: Ossuary is a matte light beige that is a perfect dupe for Brule from MAC. For those of us who are pale as can be in the winter, this is a perfect all over lid shade as well as for blending!
Topiary:
  • DC: Topiary is a light taupe shadow with white shimmer.
  • ME: Topiary is absolutely gorgeous as it is a very light taupe-champagne shadow with white, yes WHITE shimmer throughout! This shadow would make a beautiful under brow or inner corner highlight if you are looking for a hint of shimmer!

As you can see these shadows are absolutely GORGEOUS and TO DIE FOR! I seriously cannot say enough about how much I am in love with Detrivore Cosmetics shadows! My favorites from this group are Topiary, Toxicity, Wretched, and Memento Mori.

Have any of you tried Detrivore Cosmetics? If so which shadows are your favorites? Which are your favorites from this post?
